A total of 883 vacancies has been announced for the post of Junior Assistant and Junior Clerk. The vacancies are distributed across different institutions and departments.

Post-Wise & Department-Wise Details

Candidates applying for this recruitment will have to choose their preferences. There are six major categories of posts:

  1. Junior Assistant for Government Degree Colleges under the Higher Education Department.

  2. Junior Assistant for NCC under the Higher Education Department.

  3. Junior Assistant for the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) under the School and Mass Education Department.

  4. Junior Assistant for 16 State Public Universities under the Higher Education Department, which are classified as Autonomous Bodies.

  5. Junior Assistant for the Odisha University of Health Science (OUHS) under the Health and Family Welfare Department, also an Autonomous Body.

  6. Junior Clerk for Non-Government Aided Colleges across 28 Districts under the Higher Education Department.

Pay Scale: All posts offer a Pay Scale of Level 4, Cell-1, which falls under the Group-C category.

Note: Candidates should be aware that benefits like HRA and encashment of unutilized leave are not available for posts in Non-Government Aided Colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

Before applying, candidates must ensure they meet the following requirements:

1. Educational Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree: Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognized University.

  • Computer Skills: Adequate knowledge of basic computer skills with a certification is mandatory.

2. Age Limit (As on 1st January 2026)

  • Minimum Age: 21 Years

  • Maximum Age: 42 Years (Born not earlier than 1st January 1984 and not later than 1st January 2005)

  • Age Relaxation:

    • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC), Women, and Ex-Servicemen are eligible for a relaxation of 5 years.

    • Candidates belonging to PwD categories with a permanent disability of 40% or more are eligible for a relaxation of 10 years.

    • PwD candidates belonging to SC/ST/SEBC categories are eligible for cumulative age relaxation of up to 15 years.

    • Note that candidates falling under more than one category will be eligible for only one benefit of relaxation, which shall be the most beneficial to them.

3. Other Conditions

  • Citizenship: Must be a citizen of India and a domicile of the State of Odisha.

  • Language: Must be able to speak, read, and write Odia. Candidates must have passed Odia as a language subject in the HSC Examination or equivalent or have passed a test in Odia language equivalent to the Middle School Standard.

Selection Process & Exam Pattern 2026

The selection will be based on a Written Test followed by a Computer Skill Test (CST) . The total marks for the selection process are 250.

1. Written Test (200 Marks)

  • Duration: 2 Hours

  • Type: Objective (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • Total Questions: 100

  • Marking Scheme: 2 marks will be awarded for each correct answer, and 0.50 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer (Negative Marking).

  • Qualifying Marks: 40% for Unreserved category candidates, and 30% for candidates belonging to SC, ST, SEBC, and PwD categories.

The written test consists of four subjects:

  • General English (up to Graduation Level): 60 Marks. This section covers verbs, sentence structure, articles, prepositions, and an unseen passage.

  • General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 40 Marks. This includes questions on historical events, geography, books and authors, scientific discoveries, and current events.

  • General Mathematics (up to HSC Standard): 40 Marks. Topics include the number system, fractions, percentages, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, and time and distance.

  • Reasoning & Mental Ability: 60 Marks. This covers numerical ability, reasoning, aptitude tests, and problem-solving.

2. Computer Skill Test (50 Marks)

  • Candidates will be shortlisted for the Computer Skill Test based on their written test performance. The number of candidates shortlisted will be twice the number of vacancies (category-wise and sub-category wise).

  • Duration: 1 Hour

  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 20 Marks (for all categories of candidates)

The Computer Skill Test will be practical and will assess proficiency in:

  • Windows Operating System: Basic operations on files and folders like create, rename, copy, cut, paste, and delete.

  • MS Word: Editing and formatting text and paragraphs, page setup, and inserting pictures.

  • MS PowerPoint: Creating presentations with 2 to 3 slides, editing, and formatting slides.

  • MS Excel: Formatting cells and data, using functions and formulas with relative, absolute, and mixed references.

  • MS Access: Creating and entering data into a database and setting the primary key.

Final Selection:
For the final selection, the marks secured in the Written Test and Computer Skill Test will be taken together. In case of a tie, the marks secured in the written test will be considered. If a tie still exists, the older candidate (based on date of birth) will be selected.
