Note: SC/ST/PwBD candidates get a 5% relaxation in qualifying marks (i.e., 55% instead of 60%). Candidates appearing in their final semester (academic year 2025-26) can also apply, provided results are declared by 31st August 2026.

Note: Maximum age on the crucial date (30th April 2026) shall not exceed 56 years. There is no age bar for existing employees of Coal India and its subsidiaries.
Selection Process: CBT Only (No Interview)
In a major shift, CIL has eliminated the interview stage. Final selection will be based only on the marks obtained in the Computer Based Online Test.
CBT Exam Pattern:
Duration: 3 hours (one sitting)
Two Papers: Each of 100 marks, containing 100 multiple choice questions (MCQs)
Paper-I: General Knowledge/Awareness, Reasoning, Numerical Ability, General English
Paper-II: Professional Knowledge (discipline specific)
Negative Marking: None
Language: Bilingual (English & Hindi – English version prevails in case of any dispute)
Qualifying Marks (Minimum marks required in each paper):
General (UR), EWS, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): 40 marks per paper
SC, ST, PwBD: 30 marks per paper
A final merit panel will be prepared purely based on total CBT scores. For the Company Secretary discipline, ties are broken by giving preference to candidates with listed company experience.
Salary & Perks (E-1 Grade)
Selected candidates will join as Management Trainees in the pay scale of ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000 with a starting basic pay of ₹60,000 per month.

Service Agreement Bond
Appointed MTs must serve CIL for a minimum of 60 months from the date of joining. A service bond of ₹3 lakh (Rupees Three Lakhs) is to be executed at the time of joining. An amount of ₹5,000 per month will be deducted from the salary toward the bond and refunded (without interest) after successful completion of 5 years of service.
Posting & Transfer Policy
Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India, including in coal field areas. While candidates will be asked to give three choices of subsidiary companies in order of preference, the final posting decision rests solely with CIL management based on vacancy and requirement. Only candidates willing to serve anywhere in India should apply.

Important Instructions for Candidates
Only Indian Nationals are eligible.
No TA/DA will be paid for attending the CBT.
Candidates must have an active email ID and mobile number valid for at least one year.
Multiple applications – only the highest application sequence number will be considered. Fee paid against one application will not be adjusted against another.
OBC-NCL certificates must be issued on or after 01.04.2026 and must include the caste name exactly as in the Central List.
OBC candidates belonging to the "Creamy Layer" are not entitled to OBC-NCL benefits and must apply as General category.
EWS candidates: Family gross annual income must be below ₹8 lakh (FY 2025-26). Also, the family must not own assets exceeding: 5 acres of agricultural land, or residential flat of 1000 sq. ft. or above, or residential plot of 100 sq. yards in notified municipalities (200 sq. yards elsewhere). Income & Asset Certificate must be issued by competent authority (DM, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Tehsildar, etc.) based on FY 2025-26 income and valid for 2026-27.
SC/ST candidates must produce caste certificate in the latest Government of India format.
PwBD candidates must upload a certificate in prescribed Government of India format along with UDID card.
Foreign degree holders must attach recognition by a statutory body for government employment.
Any false information or suppression of facts will lead to immediate disqualification and potential debarment from all future CIL recruitments.
